The 109 Gallery is a woman-founded contemporary art space dedicated to fostering accessibility, experimentation, and meaningful dialogue through art. Located in the historic downtown of Chickamauga, Georgia, just steps from the largest federal military park in the nation. Our mission is to create an immersive environment that celebrates free expression, intimacy, and collaboration while connecting local, national, and international artists.
By showcasing solo and group exhibitions, we aim to amplify the voices of artists rooted in the rural South, alongside those from across the country and around the world, fostering cross-pollination of ideas, aesthetics, and community. With a deep commitment to environmental conservation and eco-art, we champion works that merge diverse perspectives, shared histories, and experimental methodologies. Our exhibitions emphasize care, dialogue, and innovative approaches to art-making.
The 109 Gallery founder and director Leah Dalton actively collaborates with Women Eco Artists Dialog (WEAD) in Oakland, California where she serves on the board and curatorial committee. Dalton also has invested time on the event planning committee and board member with Sculpture Fields at Montague Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Dalton’s fruitful collaborations with a dynamic network of artists, curators, organizations, poets, and activists enrich The 109 Gallery beyond its nestled site in Chickamauga, Georgia. Dalton’s own practice is held within the studio portion of The 109 Gallery. As the artist in residence, Dalton can be found painting, sculpting, teaching classes, designing graphics, or experimenting with materials within her practice.
